Snow is still sweeping across the foothills of the Rockies, but my thoughts have been on the more pleasant July weather and Conorado, the 169th Convention of the National Puzzlers’ League. Conorado will take place July 10–13, 2008, at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center outside Denver. This announcement includes information on the convention hotel, official airline, registration fee, and the convention packet. Additional announcements will be posted here in the coming weeks.
To make hotel reservations, call the Inverness at (800) 832-9053. Mention the National Puzzlers’ League to receive convention rates — $99/night for single/ double occupancy and $109/night for triple/quad occupancy. These rates do not include tax and fees. Convention rates extend from Monday, July 7, 2008, to Sunday, July 13, 2008. Reservations must be made during hotel business hours: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The off-hours reservations department cannot access convention accounts. A generous room block has been reserved at the Inverness for Conorado guests, but it’s always a good idea to make individual reservations early to ensure accommodations. For more details on the hotel, visit www.invernesshotel.com.
Air travelers should arrange to fly to Denver International Airport. United Airlines is the official carrier of Conorado. If you book flights on United using the Meeting ID Code 578TF you will be entitled to a discount of 5% to 15% based on booking class and date of purchase. For United reservations, call (800) 521-4041.
The registration fee for Conorado is $200. Please make out checks to “National Puzzlers’ League” and mail to T McAy:

Include your e-mail address when you mail your check. The registration deadline is June 1, 2008.
Shortly after the June deadline, the convention packet will be e-mailed in PDF format to all registered Conorado guests. The packet will contain information on hotel services, transportation, tourism, and dining options. Extra copies of the packet will be available in the hospitality suite at the convention. If you cannot receive e-mail and would like a printed copy of the packet mailed to you before the convention, please include a request when you mail your check. If you have additional questions, please contact email@example.com. I’m looking forward to seeing you all in the Mile High City and making Conorado the most exciting convention in the Denver area (that doesn’t have to do with presidential politics) this summer.
The evening programs for the National Puzzlers' League convention are open free to the public. The programs run from 8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, and Friday, July 11. Programs feature group game events co-directed by New York Times crossword editor and NPR “Puzzlemaster” Will Shortz.
